The Backyard Oasis of my Dreams

Having just installed some ground source heat pumps to my property, I'm now focusing my attention onto other issues around the home and garden.

For four years since I moved to my current home, my backyard has been completely barren. Only recently have I been able to find the time to have a sprinkler system installed and a lawn planted, and already there has been a drastic improvement in the overall aesthetic of my property. However, I still have many ideas for further development. My ideal environment would have a lot of vegetation, but more importantly, I want to build a large 2-floor deck where my family and I can comfortably spend a good deal of time during the warmer months of the year. On the top floor, I envision an awning to provide shade and shelter from harsher weather. On the lower floor, I would like to make enough room for a dining table, a barbecue, benches, and open space for yoga in the early morning. My house is built of white bricks, so I would likely have the deck painted deep burgundy with black railings to create a nice contrast. This has been a plan that I've had for many years towards my backyard liveable, comfortable, and attractive. Hopefully I will be able to set it into motion very soon.
