I love this house and I love the friendly neighborhood. But ever since I set eye on this house six years ago, I hated the kitchen and have been wanting to change it. So why haven’t I? Well, I couldn’t make up my mind as to the layout and the more I talked to the so-called ‘guru’, the more confused I got. So I renovated all other areas and left the kitchen last. I believe the time is now. First, I want to have two skylights, one by the cooking area and one by the island. They will have the hidden lights around the skylights when there is no sun. Then granite countertop throughout. I put that same Galaxy Black granite on the basement bar, it’s gorgeous. I want to laydown softwoods for the flooring. With all that done, I really think I would have scratched that seven year itch pretty good. |

If I were to change one thing about my house it would be the lack of granite within it. Since I was a young lad I always dreamed of being encased in a chasm of glimmering granite. I've already done other jobs to the house like intalling new stair parts to the staircase - now for something new! The thought of living in a smooth hard shiny house, void of hard wood or carpeting is simply exciting to me. In order for me to do this I would first need to develop a budget. For the sake of fun, lets say my budget is 300 dollars per week. This means that at the standard market price of 10 dollars per square foot of 1/4 inch granite i could cover 30 square feet of granite within my house per week. This means that after a considerable amount of time I would have my granite sanctuary. The process by which I would install the granite would be with a strong epoxy, most likely Cyanoacrylate as it has great adhesive properties. However for the ceiling granite I feel 3 inch drywall screws would be more appropriate. All in all this project is a dream of mine that I will hopefully someday achieve although its likelihood remains limited, as I am but a simpleton destined to be without his granite palace. |

Fatherhood is an interesting thing. A lot changes when a man becomes a father, he changes too and so does his priorities. Before my brother became a father, the only thing he was concerned with was himself but this changed with time. When his fiance got pregnant he suddenly became very protective over her. When their baby girl was born his protectiveness took a whole new level. He had all the rooms of the house baby proofed and when he read in a baby safety book on the dangers of electricity to new born, he knew he had to change the electrical system in his home. So he started browsing though all the electricians he knew about and he even asked around who was the best electrician in the city. When he got the right electricians he asked them how sure was he that they knew what they were doing and they showed him their electrical safety certificates. He even followed up to make sure those were real and when he confirmed he hired them and instructed them on what he wanted. |

Some people think bugs are only a problem in the house that can easily be dealt with using solutions like bed bug sprays. Actually, bugs can be a problem for your garden too.
Is your lawn not looking as healthy as you want it to be? Do you have brown patches in the grass that grows and just do not want to go away? Well if your answer is a yes, then your grass does have a problem. Luckily, it is a very common problem here in Houston and there is a solution. First, you have to identify what is the cause of the brown patches. In almost all cases it is one of these three problems: 1) Chinch bugs 2) Grubs or 3) Fungus. There is a simple test to do to see if the problem is Chinch bugs. Get a jar, fill it with water, leave it open without the lid, and burry it half way into the grass over night. If the problem is Chinch bugs, you will see them clearly in the jar. If grubs are the issue, cut out one square foot of grass and lift it up, and check if there are any. Usually, if there are grubs, you will see them right away. To kill grubs and chinch bugs, use an insecticide that has Bifenthrin (like Talstar), it is the strongest and will get the best long lasting results. Now what if you did not find chinch bugs or grubs? Then the problem is fungus and fungicide is the solution. |

I currently live In a 3,500 square foot house and it is simply too big. It is way too open and has too many vantage points for an intruder. What I have thought about doing is building a couple extra walls, and would really like to build a "games room" that would be really cool to have since I have a lot of friends that love gaming as much as I do. Another thing I'd like to do is enlarge my kitchen. While these projects may seem daunting, I have embarked on a self build project in the past which was successful, so I see these projects as feasible - given the money and time of course! But really, it's made me realise that you CAN have a house that's too big, and that can be a real problem. Rather than move, I want to create a more cosy looking interior. |

During the different months and seasons of the year we are often left dealing with different pests to keep ourselves and our house away from. Normally you can to a local supermarket or even a local pet store to get certain bug sprays for the best pest control, of even buy things like fly screens for doors. Unfortunately these are very expensive at times and sometimes do not work as well as you would of liked. If worse comes to worse you can hire an exterminator. They very on different prices depending on where you live, how big your yard and house are, and even what exactly you are needing them for. It is impossible to live somewhere that you are never having to deal with these annoying pests so it is important to know just how to react when you are having too. A good idea is to exterminate these creatures with bug sprays before they even are a problem to you. |

Temperature extremes can really a bummer at times. Each and every home should have a heater and an air conditioner to adjust the temperature. These are commonly used for indoors and whatever the temperature outdoors is, I would have to sacrifice for it. This is particularly during winter when I have a hard time stepping outside of my house. It is always a struggle for me and I really have to wear layers of clothes just to keep me warm. I recently looked into outdoor fireplace designs which were suggested to me.
I can have an outdoor right in my backyard to keep my warm. Whenever I just want to spend time outside the house, these will make it possible for me to step outside. The good thing about this is that there are a lot of designs to choose from. I can pick whichever material will match my taste – stones, bricks, and other options. This is going to be the next thing that I’m gonna spend for when I save enough money and I’m really excited! |

I admit to be a very boring person. I always prefer plain designs usually in 2 to 3 color combinations at the most. When you enter inside my home, you would probably think that it is very simple. My only reason for this is that I am afraid to choose anything with designs because it might be too much. I thought that this attitude is okay when it comes to buying things at home but when I had kids, things changed.
They were the exact opposite of me. They love designs and do not really like using plain home decors so we always argued when it comes to this. As I wanted to maintain a simple room, I only bought valance window treatments with designs so it still looks very simple. Even if the rooms are quite simple, the valance made it more colorful! These are available in all designs which are perfect for little boy’s or little girl’s room. If you want to be on the safer side, this will be the perfect treatment for windows. |

What happens when you have a vacation rental by owner unit that all of a sudden has a very serious bed bug problem? I'd handled the flies with my fly screens, but bed bugs are something else. Since the VRBO in located in a condo, the association decided to shut down the owner's rental unit. I wondered if this was legal or illegal. One one hand I can understand the associations concern. Bed bugs if treated, will try to escape to the next condo unit. It costs a lot to try to pest control the unit and all of the units that are physically connected to the original problem unit. But, by putting the VRBO unit out of business, the bed bugs will have no one to feed on and will therefore, move to the next unit. So, if I were the association, I would leave the VRBO unit alone and let the owner treat the problem, I would also let people stay in the unit. If the bugs are still there, then the people will leave anyway, and the bugs will stay put. Part of the pest control treatment, is encasement of the bed. Which means that the bugs can not get out of the encasement and are trapped there. Quite a thought, you are sleeping on them, but they can't get out of the bed encasement. Also, the treatment is extensive chemical treatment, to try to kill the bed bugs. This chemical treatment is done several times, to get the situation under control. The bugs can also move on to the pest control person. So, these pest control employees, must be very careful to wash down completely before entering their own homes. The interesting thing is that the bed bugs don't seem to discriminate, they simply, like, hitch a ride into any bed that they can find. Overall it seems, that the world is so connected that the bugs can travel on luggage and can be found in many well established very expensive vacation rental units. One of the interesting bits of information is that bed bugs leave very minute blood spots on the sheets, besides the bites on the person sleeping in the bed. In conclusion, the pest control of bed bugs is possible, and you definately appreciate everything that they do to get the bed bugs out of your bed. |

The sun can burn your skin from 92 million miles away. It can start fires here on earth, and without this ball of fire, there would be NO life on this planet. And yet - and yet - we choose not to make the most of the power of the sun. When I see a solar panel farm out in the desert, it inspires me. It's amazing how QUIET these places are. There's no harm to the environment. Yes, we're still in our infancy when it comes to solar power, but without a shadow of a doubt (pun intended), solar is the future power for humans. Fossil fuels are on their way out, and nuclear has shown to be dangerous and a difficult power source to deal with - no, solar is our future, and in many respects, our present too - with many devices already being powered via solar panels. |

My brother is building a cabin house. He has even decided to move there so the first thing he did was construct a temporary house where he would leave in as he oversaw the construction of his cabins. He wanted to have metal sheets as the roof of his temporary house but the contractors that were offering him with the roofing services told him not to do so. As stubborn as he was, he insisted to know why it was so. He was told that starting price of having a metal roof set up was a lot and since the house would not even stand for a year, he would incur a loss. I do not know why he would even think of having a metal roof. I have twin boys who are two years old. These boys are very noisy and I cannot have extra noise brought in the house because of metal roofs. So what happens with a metal roof is when it rains, the impact of the rain drops to the metal roof is not a joke, the rattling sound is almost deafening. |

After working for someone else’s kitchen for years, I finally have enough money to start my own restaurant. I am truly ecstatic and grateful that all my friends are helping out and pulling their weight so that my grand opening will be a success. Although I already have a design and concept in mind as regards restaurant theme, I must admit that my best friend’s idea on the kitchen lighting effects is much better. We all agreed that it would be great if the place is cozy and has a relaxed ambiance because people tend to enjoy their food more if all their senses are calm and collected. This is the kind of atmosphere that I want because there is nothing that makes me happier than people enjoying the dishes that I have prepared. I will be going with my friend to look at different lights tomorrow so that we could see which kinds will work best for the theme we have in mind. |

You may have thought of remodeling grandmas home, but don’t forget to get the Electrical wiring changed. Most older houses wouldn’t have Electrical wiring which would be safe, they overtime would turn faulty. With new electrical wiring in place, your electricity bills would come down and save you a lot of money in the bargain. Remember new Electrical wiring would decrease the load on the appliances and fixtures, giving you more for less.
