Geeky T-shirts are Fun, Quirky, and Stylish

posted on 22 January 2012

The 'geek chic' t-shirt has made a splash on the fashion scene in recent years, and for good reason. Quirky t-shirts are fun, playful and incredibly versatile - they go so well with other accessories - from clutch bags to jewellery. For instance the 'Superman' logo tee has been quite popular with both men and women. Other comic book inspired tees are also very cute and suit the current social climate that it's cool to be geeky. Personally, being a 'Harry Potter' tragic, I love my "9 and 3/4s" tee. There have also been some 'Doctor Who' inspired shirts which I have found hilarious and have caused me to interrogate the person as to where I could get my hands on one. Whatever the subject of the t-shirt, one thing is for sure they can express the wearer's personality, quirkiness, and sense of humor, as well as being affordable and appropriate for both sexes and all ages. What's more is that these t-shirts can be worn on casual occasions, or can be dressed up with a smart blazer or cardigan to allow for a more stylish look while still maintaining its inherent eccentricity. There are not too many fashion items that can tick all those boxes!

Vintage Gloves: Reaching the Limits of Elegance

posted on 9 January 2012

How can a simple accessory like a pashmina or a glove change the way you feel? Well, in short, I think I'm one of those obsessed type girls. So, an ordinary accessory can easily help me to gain confidence. And for me, it's called ''gloves''... I'm into anything retro, I like old fashioned stuff. Thus, gloves have always been my major helping hand. I know, that sounds weird, yet I always wear gloves, even in those extremely hot and dry summer days. Just like Kate Ames did in the movie called ''East Of Eden''. I'm sure, people ever seen this movie couldn't get rid of the image of Kate! What's more, thanks to my many kind of gloves, I'm known around as ''The Girl With the Gloves''. For sure, it's a gift, to build a feeling of confidence. And, I didn't even tell how those gloves can easily make me attractive and mysterious for anyone!

A Practical Gift Giving Guide for the Uninspired

posted on 5 January 2012

Gift buying can be a relatively simple procedure if one knows the individual they're purchasing the gift for and pays a bit of attention to the context. Even though the whole point of buying a gift is that you're giving the person something superfluous in their life that they wouldn't already have, you still want your gift to be useful and not a waste. Therefore, gifts should be personalized for the person who is receiving them. Sometimes I even make gifts using my jewellery making supplies, in fact! Gifts fall into two categories: serious and humorous. In some cases, a humorous or satirical gift is in order, depending on how well you know your friend or family member and what type of personality they have. Do you and the gift receiver share an inside joke? Are they starting a new job and need decor for their desks? In this case, it is easy to show that you care about the person and have paid attention to their particular life circumstances with a well thought out — and clever — gift. In other cases, a more serious gift is required. If the gift is a serious gift, then the gifts fall into two categories: thoughtful inexpensive gifts or expensive gifts. Both categories of "thoughtful" and "expensive" gifts should be items that the gift receiver should have the need for, have the want for, and finally, if you don't know them very well, have mentioned that they wanted or needed it. It's important that the gift be something that the person will use, which doesn't necessarily mean practical, but does mean that the gift will NOT end up in the waste stream. Thoughtful inexpensive gifts can be handmade items or items the receiver has specifically mentioned wanting or needing. Expensive gifts can be things that anyone would want, such as household appliances (especially if that person is a cook) or tickets to events (depending on what their interests are). The bottom line is that your gift should be a reflection of who the receiver is as a person and NOT you as a person. Try to give the person what they want and also that you as the giver are happy to give.

My Favourite Fashions: the Plain White Shirt

posted on 30 December 2011

While my wife has quite a wide range of tastes when it comes to fashion - from her Fever dresses to her Doc martens - I'm quite the reserved - but smart - male. My favourite item of fashion is the plain white shirt. It’s got a bit of a dodgy press in recent times, tarred with the same brush as the necktie that often accompanies it. Once a national object of suave sophistication, it has been corrupted through its appropriation as an object of uniform not for no reason is the educated professional called the white-collar worker. Generations of schoolchildren have been forced to blearily shawl themselves in white shirts every cold winter morning. Years of slick businessmen and bank managers white-clad and buttoned-up have done nothing for its image either. Yet the white shirt is a fashion classic not in spite of its ubiquity but because of it. Too many people try to avoid the old white-collar cliché by leaving it untucked or open-necked- the politician’s idea of casual- or pulling on a coloured shirt instead. Resist. If you want to look better than the men around you, beat them at their own game. Wear your white shirt with pride, tucked in, buttoned up, with tie and jacket. It’s the sign of a man. And what’s more, an individual.

Different Types of Baby Girls Clothes

posted on 10 December 2011

In the market you will find different types of baby girls clothes, some of which are very great for your little angel while some are just ordinary. Depending on their situations, mummies may have different options when shopping for the right clothing for their baby girls. Amongst the options available, dresses have been the most favourite baby girls clothes for many mummies since time immemorial. For many years, parents have been considering dresses to the perfect clothing for ladies. Even as to date, this perception has not changed. Dresses for baby girls clothes come in various different designs and styles. There is a wide variety of options for dresses to choose from. Besides, new designs are being introduced in the market. This could make it pretty hard for inexperienced parents to get the right dress for their little baby. It is therefore very important to plan the type of dress to buy for your baby in terms of comfort, occasion, and design. For baby girls clothes, it is pretty wise to stick to fabrics and cotton that allows the skin to freely and easily breathe. When shopping for your baby girls clothes, always avoid fussy dresses because they can make your baby feel more uncomfortable. When buying baby girls clothes for any special occasion, you can decide on floral and soft fluffy dresses. They are very great for any special occasion and make your baby girl look great. In addition, you can chose dresses that have some attachable embellishments such as flowers.

Tangled Up In a Disney Costume

posted on 19 October 2011

I love to dress up in costume for parties! I would have to say my latest interesting costume would have to be Rapunzel from Disney's Tangled. Not only will the kids at these events adore it, but I will as well. I love Disney and I thought this last film was fantastic. The character of Rapunzel is something close to my heart and highly recognizable, and when it comes to childrens fancy dress costumes, you can't beat Disney characters. I would want to make the costume for just that added touch of creativity and workmanship to be proud of. Her dress would not be the hardest part as much as the wig will be. The wig will need to be braided over and over again. In the end it will be worth it and look fantastic. Maybe, I will find my own Flynn Rider and dance with him. I can not forget the skillet as well. What better way to have an amazing evening than to go in a costume like this? I do not think I could find one.

The High Heels I Call My Warriors

posted on 14 October 2011

I have a long history of being a fashion follower that goes right back to my childhood. In fact, I can see now that my own daughter - and her love for Oilily bags - is following in my footsteps. About my most beloved fashion item? I have had to lay my favorite boots to rest. It was a long battle, but in the end I finally wore them to death. They put up a good fight, though, and gave as good as they got. My knee-high lace-up patent leather stilettos with five-inch heels had lots of admirers over the ten years they lasted, and they never, ever went out of style, not for one second. Nowadays there are pretenders on the market. Oh sure, your platforms with the chunky heel may put you five inches off the ground, but that arch is only elevated three inches or so, max. The arch is where it's at, the arch is what throws your back into those enticing curves, and minces every one of your steps while you tiptoe into the club. Painful? Of course they are. So are tattoos and piercings, other badges of noir chic. Hardly the hobble of a submissive woman, storming around at night in a pair of murderous heels is as much a declaration of toughness as black leather.

My Blue Coach Shoulder Bag

posted on 9 October 2011

My favorite handbag is my blue coach shoulder bag, it's so handy to carry many things with me - from costume jewellery to my mobile phone. It is a very stylish bag from a very well known and reliable brand. Made with their signature fabric and with coach leather, it is a bag that I know will not rip or fall apart and will stand up to all kinds of abuse. It is a great bag because it is useful in many situations, it can be a casual bag to wear at the mall, or it can be a professional bag that doesn’t look out of place at the office. It has lots of internal pockets to help keep things organized, and a zippered pocket on the inside seam to separate private items. This bag has two shoulder straps: they are the perfect size to slip over your shoulder without having to adjust, but without being too long and inconvenient. Overall my blue coach shoulder is my favorite handbag and will continue to be for many reasons and for many years to come.

About My Favourite Cloche Hat

posted on 2 October 2011

My favourite fashion item is my cloche hat, which I made myself from patterns I found on the internet and purple velvet fabric I bought from a fabric shop in Brick Lane in London. Lace and velvet are my favourite materials as they are just wonderfully soft to the touch. As to my hat, it has a wide brim and is made of six pieces of fabric altogether, stitched together on my sewing machine. I wear it all the time to keep off the rain and match my purple hair. It goes particularly well with flapper style dresses and other kinds of vintage clothing, as cloches are vintage hats which were popular with flappers in the 1920s. They are shaped like a bell which is where the name comes from as cloche means bell in French. Young women would adorn them with ribbons which signaled their relationship status in code. They would tie knots in the ribbon or stick pins in when they went out dancing. The hats suited the bob style hair cut which was also popular then.

Trendy Shopping Bags Can Be Fun

posted on 2 July 2011

Whenever I go shopping I always bring my own shopping bags as I can't stand the thought of using horrible plastic bags. I recently bought a new shopping bag which depicts images of Australia. I also have another bag which has a map of my local area on it. It is very similar to a tote bag. I think it looks rather trendy. I bought it from a new designer in Brisbane. It cost close to $100 USD but was well worth it. Tote bags are much better than smaller bags - such as clutch bags - which can't carry a lot of items. I am not a huge fan of those drab environmentally friendly bags as they are so plain. They can often be purchased for a reasonable price at supermarkets but would rather spend a little bit extra to get a bag that I can take out to places without feeling embarrassed. I am currently looking to buy other interesting bags made from bio-degradable materials.

Summer Shoes for Fashion and Comfort

posted on 17 June 2011

The great feeling of having a wonderful summer wardrobe of beautiful sports, casual and dress outfits is also having the shoes to match each one. I'm rather challenged in the shoe department since I have to find vendors that sell shoes for large feet, but these days it's getting easier to find large sized shoes. The light, airy and print gauzy dress requires a strappy sandal with a comfortable 3-5 inch heel. A yellow and white short set for the beach must have a light weight tennis shoe that is canvas with a slightly thick sole for support, cushioning and height. Next, comes the evening attire of a sheer black umpire dress that has pleats all around, a sheer mesh mere and satin strap sandal shoes with tiny rhinestone edging. These are the summer styles that must be accessorized with stylish shoes that look perfect with each outfit and feel absolutely like a soft-kit glove to your feet. The vast selection, materials and construction of shoes on the market make it possible to match shoes to outfits at reasonable prices and still obtain a quality product that compliments ones summer wardrobe.

Working in the Factory a Real Change from My Office Job

posted on 17 May 2011

Since taking on my new picking job in the local furniture depot factory, I've really noticed the difference between office work and factory work. For a start, I need to wear clothing that actually helps protect me - safety boots, relfective jacket, gloves. In my office job, I had to wear a shirt and tie which did NOTHING to help me do my job, but was just part of the dress code protocol. Secondly, I go home feeling very refreshed because I'm physically doing things all day long. In my previous job, I was exhausted at the end of each day. All that's rather counter-intuitive as you'd think the opposite would be the case but I put it down to fitness - the factory job really keeps me in shape. Finally I feel that I get on better with my fellow workers in the factory and there's less petty disputes there.

On the Good and Bad You Can Experience at Weddings

posted on 1 May 2011

I recently got married and it was a very exciting but an anxious time for me. At first I was incredibly worried about not being able to find a suitable wedding dress as I was 12 weeks pregnant. About the only thing I looked forward to looking for when it came to my attire was the tiaras for weddings my jewellery store had - at least they wouldn't be too small for me! When it came to my dress, I was fortunate to find one that looked stunning. There was a lot to organize such as the reception and to determine who to invite. The hospitality was rather involved as we had to cater for over 500 guests. The wedding cake was extremely well done and incredibly expensive. In fact I think this has been the most beautifully decorated wedding cake I have ever seen. After the reception we had our photographs taken by a professional photographer which was actually the most disappointing aspect. The photographs did not really capture the true emotion of the day and did not really compliment me which was a great shame. Since being married, my main observation is that I feel at times I do not have a lot to look forward to anymore since all the excitement has been and gone.

Keshi pearls

posted on 14 February 2011

The term ‘keshi’ can sometimes be used for any baroque pearl but in the strict sense of the word it is a pearl which forms spontaneously in the mollusk without any mantle tissue or bead. These pearls can be quite bizarre in shape which makes them very interesting to use in jewellery. Although pearls are delicate they have been used successfully in freshwater pearl jewellery for thousands of years. They are sensitive to heat, chemicals such as perfume and hairspray and abrasions and as such should be stored in a soft cloth bag and kept away from other jewellery or materials. They should be wiped gently with a damp cloth after wearing and cleaned occasionally in warm water with mild soap. Jewellery settings in rings and bracelets for example should be protective and if they are not then the piece should be considered for occasional rather than everyday use. Pearl jewellery should be the last thing you put on before you go out and the first thing you take off when returning home in the evening.

Ladies Court Shoes for the New Year's Eve Ball

posted on 26 December 2010

I've bought myself some ladies court shoes for the New Year's Eve ball I'm going to. The only problem I have is getting to and from the event - there's snow and ice everywhere and ladies court shoes aren't exactly designed for snowy conditions. I'm going to carry a pair of trainers with me and stow them away somewhere when I arrive at the event - I'm not breaking my neck for the sake of fashion, that's for sure! Last year was the same, except I nearly did break my neck wearing court shoes to the event. Not only did I look ridiculous teetering around, but I just felt so uncomfortable, like I was going to fall at any moment. My advice to people is be fashionable at the party, not before or after it - that way you get to keep all your bones in tact and you can get there safely and leave safely too.
